Blue Devils Ready for No. 1 Northport on Tuesday Afternoon
October 28, 2025
Under bright sunshine on a splendid fall day the Huntington boys’ soccer team took a step forward in the Suffolk playoffs by shutting out visiting West Islip at Alumni Field on Saturday morning, 2-0. The Blue Devils will now advance to play No. 1 Northport today (Tuesday) at 2:15 p.m.
With its fans sitting on the edge of their seats, Huntington used second half goals by Brian Fuentes and Ezra Oddoye to topple the Lions. The victory improved the Blue Devils’ record to 10-6-1 this fall.
Fuentes converted a rebound with about 20 minutes remaining in the game to put Huntington ahead. It was his first goal of the season. Oddoye (8 goals; 1 assist) later added an insurance goal. Robbie Campbell (10g; 9a) and Jonathan Morales (8g; 4a) picked up the assists. Goalkeeper Edwin Caballero (64 saves) made four saves to notch the shutout.
Northport will come into Tuesday’s game with a 15-1 record. The Tigers came back from a 1-0 deficit to edge Huntington 3-2 in the first game under the new lights at Alumni Field on September 26. Campbell scored the first goal ever under the lights to give the Blue Devils the lead. The game was tied at halftime, 2-2. Northport’s Joey Smith (7g; 4a) scored what proved to be the game winner with 16 minutes remaining in the second half.
Huntington Superintendent Beth McCoy and Assistant Superintendent Brenden Cusack were in the crowd on Saturday morning, cheering on the Blue Devils.
Huntington has had a strange season, defeating several teams that finished ahead of the Blue Devils in the standings, but losing to several other teams that finished lower.
Northport’s only blemish this fall was a 1-0 loss to Harborfields on October 10, a team that Huntington defeated, 3-1 on September 9.
The Blue Devils are coached by John Pagano, Jason Suarez and Grixon Moriera.
