Huntington Seniors Enjoy SUNY Free Application Week
October 21, 2025
Here’s something of interest to Huntington High School seniors. The State University of New York (SUNY) will waive application fees for students applying to up to five SUNY campuses from October 20 through November 3.
This initiative supports access and affordability, helping students take the next step toward their college goals without financial barriers.
“I’m excited that SUNY is removing one more barrier for students,” said Dr. Ricky Papandrea, Huntington UFSD director of school counseling and testing, K–12. “Free Application Week opens doors for more students to explore higher education and pursue their ambitions with confidence.”
Students can visit www.suny.edu/apply for details on how to participate. Here are some common questions and their answers:
Question: Does the fee waiver apply if I use the Common App?
Answer: Yes. You can get five free SUNY applications from Monday October 20 through Monday November 3, 2025 using either the ApplySUNY Application or the Common App.
Question: Do I need a special code?
Answer: No. As long as you submit an application for admission during the free application period, here's how to take advantage of this:
• If using ApplySUNY: when you get to the payment page, it will show the first five campus application fees as waived (they are paid by SUNY).
• If using Common App: you will need to apply campus by campus. On each SUNY school's member page, there will be a question that says, "It is free application week with The State University of New York through November 3rd! Would you like SUNY to pay your application fee?" If you select "Yes", your fee will be waived for that SUNY school. You can do this for up to five SUNY schools.
Question: I applied before the free application period. Can I get a refund?
Answer: No. The free application offer only applies to applications submitted between October 20 and November 3, 2025. SUNY will not refund application fees for applications submitted before or after those dates.
• In addition to Free App Week, SUNY offers ongoing fee waivers that apply to 60 percent of all high school seniors in New York State. Students in foster care, with military connections, low-income students, and students at 500+ designated high schools can apply to up to seven SUNY campuses for free, saving up to $350 any time during the year. See if you qualify for a fee waiver.
• In addition, campus financial aid officers are available to help students receive state, federal, and campus aid to help make college more affordable.
Question: I already received seven application fee waivers. Do I get five more?
Answer No. Seven is the maximum number of fee waivers a student can receive.
SUNY waives 60 percent of application fees year round. Please go to www.suny.edu/feewaiver for additional information.
