Blue Devils Honor Senior Girls’ Volleyball Players

Three very special players were recognized at the Huntington High School varsity girls’ volleyball team’s Senior Night late last week. The Blue Devils honored Mia Miller, Kymora Dorvilus and Emily Barba during a pre-game ceremony.

“Tonight, we celebrate more than just athletes; we celebrate leaders, teammates, and outstanding young people who have made a lasting mark on this program,” head coach Jake Torres said. “Each of our seniors has demonstrated hard work, passion and dedication. They have set the standard for what it means to be part of the Huntington volleyball program.”

Coach Torres also recognized the game day staff that man’s the scoring table, including Carrie Postel, Theresa E. Matthew, Lauren Brunoni and Karen Fischer. The table staff received flowers and warm words of thanks.

“Lastly, a huge thank you to junior varsity coach Lauren Blackburn, whose leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on all the athletes in our program,” Coach Torres said.

The gym was decorated with colorful balloons, streamers and photo posters, commemorating the careers of the teenagers.

The seniors were joined on the court by their parents and family members. Teammates took turns talking about each of them, expressing their admiration, affection and love.

Coach Torres presented each of the seniors with flowers and a framed Huntington “H” varsity letter and colorful portrait photo of the player. The coach spoke about each of the seniors during the ceremony. Tears flowed and there were tight hugs and heartfelt applause and lots of photos.

“To our seniors: Thank you for your hard work, your leadership and the legacy you leave behind,” Coach Torres said. “You will always be a part of the Huntington volleyball program. We wish you all the best in your future after high school.”

Once the ceremony and the ceremony wrapped up, the team played its final home match of the regular season. A post-game party followed in the gymnasium.
