Here’s what the director, Michael Schwendemann had to say about this show:
“First love. The kiss. The one we will always remember—who it was? Where did it happen? Why did it happen? Most important of all, the feelings that caused it to happen. Wendy Darling—the girl that cannot escape that first magical moment when we connect with another human being in a way we have never connected with someone before. The feelings we have never felt until then and may never feel again… Is she chasing a dream… an idealized moment frozen in time that can never be relived or regained? The kiss she gave Peter before returning home awaiting his return—a return that she is still waiting for when our play opens. Wendy, now a grown-up—or is she?—doubted by everyone, questioned by all, lost in a moment. If only she could see him again, her faith would be restored in herself, in him, in love, and in the world—with one single kiss. In the novel Peter Pan, Barrie muses, “I never expected that you could have a broken heart and love with it too, so much that it doesn’t seem broken at all,” but Wendy is broken. Will getting her kiss back repair her broken heart or will she forever remain unfulfilled chasing that dream? Some say a kiss is just a kiss—I ask you to think back to your first kiss—was it just a kiss or something more… enjoy the show!”
