Blue Devils Win to Secure Home Playoff Game

November 3, 2025

Yasir Jones scored four touchdowns in the pouring rain to lift the Huntington varsity football team over Newfield in the final game of the regular season, 34-21 to secure a home playoff game against sixth seeded North Babylon on Saturday at 1 p.m. Admission is free.

Jones rushed 18 times for 267 yards and Ethan Lawless had 13 tackles, including three for a loss, two quarterback sacks and an interception that he returned 27 yards. Chase Northrop caught a 56 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jacob Guzik.

Huntington (6-2) jumped out to a 14-0 on touchdown runs covering 45 and 61 yards by Jones. Newfield (4-4) cut its deficit to seven points in the second quarter before Jones found the end zone again, this time on a 77 yard run. The teams traded touchdowns in the second half, but the Wolverines never got close enough to put the game in doubt.

The heavy rain prevented much of a passing game as Guzik completed two-of-six passes for 85 yards. Zayvion McCoy rushed three times for 27 yards. Frankie Algieri caught a pass for 29 yards and had nine tackles, including one for a loss and an assist.

Standout defensive performances included Titan Elysee with five tackles, one for a loss and a quarterback sack and Banny Soc Concua with six tackles, a fumble recovery and a batted down pass. Will Peters and Zach Matthews also had quarterback sacks. Henry Gerberg also forced a fumble.

Placekicker Max Carino converted a pair of extra points. Shates Miller returned a kick 33 yards. Blake Bender recorded five tackles on kicks to lead the special teams.

Huntington’s total offense amounted to 386 yards, including 301 on the ground. The Blue Devil defense made 68 solo tackles, six tackles for a loss, 11 assisted tackles, five quarterback sacks, two pass deflections, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

Huntington finished the regular season in third place in Suffolk Division II. North Babylon (4-4) finished in sixth place. The Blue Devils topped the Bulldogs in a September regular season game, 40-34.
