The Huntington High School boys’ and girls’ varsity lacrosse teams have both qualified for the Section XI Division I playoffs.

The Blue Devil boys’ lacrosse team is seeded No. 3 in the Suffolk Division I bracket and will face the winner of No. 11 Middle Country v. No. 6 Commack on Thursday (May 22) in a game tentatively slated for 4 p.m. at Blue Devil Stadium.
The Huntington girls’ lacrosse team is seeded No. 2 in Division I and will face the winner of No. 10 Patchogue-Medford v. No. 7 Sachem North on Friday (May 23) in a game tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. at Blue Devil Stadium.
There is no admission charge for either of the two games. The two Blue Devil teams are ecstatic about reaching the playoffs, but both have goals to win more games before the season concludes.
Huntington’s varsity boys’ team compiled an 11-3 record in league games and went 13-3 overall. The Blue Devils topped Sachem East in the regular season finale last Thursday, 13-7.
The Huntington girls’ team is 13-1 in league games and 14-2 overall. The Blue Devils won their final regular season game last Friday before a crowd of about 300, topping Connetquot, 10-9.
It was a wild game with Huntington scoring the first six goals in the opening four minutes. Connetquot, which came into the game with 10 victories, then went on a long unanswered scoring run, eventually taking the lead. The Blue Devils needed to stage a rally and didn’t score what proved to be the winning goal until there was just 16.6 seconds remaining in the game.
Grace Gordon led Huntington with four goals. Sabrina Boyle notched two goals and an assist. Devon St. John also scored twice in the game. Valentina Puccio and Jolie Weinschreider both scored a goal and added an assist. Bridget Callery also tallied an assist. Juliet Johnson recorded six saves in the cage.
