Huntington SEPTA Presents Grant Awards

The Huntington UFSD Special Education PTA recently donated more than $3,600 to the district to fund seven different grant applications submitted by faculty members. The grants range from as much as $1,100 to $200.

Widely known by the acronym SEPTA, the group is a district-wide organization devoted to the promotion of quality learning experiences for Huntington students, while recognizing each child’s learning differences.

SEPTA is led by co-Presidents Sara Baliber and Kristin Peters and board members Lauren Campbell, Alex Capozolli, Rene Babich, Wendy Naborre and Mary Reilly.

The Huntington Board of Education accepted the SEPTA donation in the amount of $3,610 during a public meeting this past Monday night in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School auditorium.

The funded grants include:

• Teacher: Kelly Trite

Description: Two Sit to Stand desks

Amount: $1,100

• Teacher: Jennifer Stucchio

School: Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School

Description: 10 Flex Space seats for the reading corner

Amount: $700

• Teacher: Meredith Kennelly/Patricia Klee

School: Huntington High School

Description: Cricut plus accessories

Amount: $550

• Teacher: Sarah Macaluso/Kaitlyn Moran

School: Southdown Primary School

Description: Field trip to Sweet Briar Nature Center

Amount: $140

• Teacher: Kerry Winberry

School: Flower Hill Primary School

Description: Sensory table and supplies

Amount: $530

• Teacher: Danielle Lopez/Jenna Milewski

School: Jefferson Primary School

Description: Hear Builder subscription

Amount: $200

Huntington School Board Vice President Michele Kustera announced the SEPTA contribution and offered the district’s thanks for the organization’s generosity.
