Huntington Senior Julia Aldas Wins County Award

May 9, 2025

Huntington senior Julia Aldas has captured a Suffolk County Youth Court Award for her notable efforts in the town’s program. She will be formally recognized next Monday night at the county’s H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge.

Ms. Aldas has proved to be instrumental in the successful launch of the Huntington Youth Court’s Spanish courtroom program. Project Director Manuel Zelaya stated that it was a “great achievement” by Ms. Aldas, who is an ambassador in the youth court initiative, completing several hours of community service and servicing her peers throughout the town in both English and Spanish.

Recognized as a Distinguished Senior after compiling an academic grade average of at least 90 during every semester of high school, Ms. Aldas plans to attend Hofstra University and study general medicine.

“The key to my success has always been completing my work on time, even when I don’t fully understand it,” Ms. Aldas said. “I take advantage of extra help so I can stay on track and succeed. I make the most of extra credit opportunities, try to get involved as much as I can and always aim to be kind and respectful.”

The teenager said she is “proud” to have pushed herself to participate in the New World Club and the Natural Helpers program. “To me, high school has been about learning, growing and experiencing new things,” Ms. Aldas said. “Talking to new people; making new friends and connecting with amazing teachers. I’ve loved watching myself grow over the past three and a half years surrounded by great people.”

A sweet young woman who is well-liked by her classmates, Ms. Aldas will be missed around the high school next year.

“I’ve appreciated the support from my counselors and teachers and the opportunities they gave me and most of all, being loved by great people and friends,” Ms. Aldas said.
