Blue Devils at State Track Championships

June 12, 2025

Two Blue Devil track greats have qualified for the New York State Boys’ Track & Field Championships this weekend at Middletown. The pair have high hopes of earning medals

Huntington track stars Eric Heinz, Titan Elysee and Dom Mattio at the state qualifier.

Sophomore Eric Heinz competed in the pentathlon last weekend at the Section XI state qualifier and performed impressively, placing second with a combined score of 3,165 and earning himself his first ticket to the state championship. His total score broke the school record set by Thomas Lannen in 1994 who tallied 2,982 points in the event.

The pentathlon includes a series of five events covering running, throwing and jumping. The winner is often called the best all-around athlete.

Huntington junior Titan Elysee punched his ticket as well when he ran a personal best in the 400m intermediate hurdles finishing a close second in 55.09 seconds.

The two Huntington stars will be leaving on the Section XI team bus on Thursday afternoon. The state competition will start Friday morning and resume again on Saturday. Head coach Ronald E. Wilson will be on the scene to exhort Heinz and Elysee.

Senior Dominic Mattio also reached the state qualifier finals in the 400m dash but came up short. Mattio ran a personal best time of 50.00 seconds, placing sixth in the County and earning Academic All-County honors.
