A Field Day to Remember at Southdown School

June 11, 2025

Yeehaw! Southdown Primary School physical education teachers John Romano and Natalee Schaeffer saddled up and put on an unforgettable field day this year, transforming the school’s athletic field into a lively Wild West adventure. With students and teachers decked out in cowboy hats, bandanas, face paint and western flair, the spirit of the frontier was alive and well all day long!

The day was split into morning and afternoon sessions where the entire school attended both. Each session was filled with exciting games, friendly competition, water relays and plenty of laughter as our young cowboys and cowgirls took part in a variety of themed activities.

From frisbee challenges and sack races to a gold rush treasure hunt, relay race showdown and everyone’s favorite show of strength, the tug-of-war, there was no shortage of Wild West fun.

On a nice warm day, the students were soaked with two different water relays to cool them off. Students cheered on their classmates, showed great sportsmanship and made lasting memories as they worked together in teams.

Mr. Romano and Mrs. Schaeffer sent out a huge thank you to the incredible Southdown staff and PTA (who donated the shirts) for helping the day run so smoothly and to the students for bringing their best Wild West energy.

“It was an excellent way to celebrate the end of the year and the wonderful community we have here at Southdown as parents line up around the field to cheer on their favorite cowboy or cowgirl,” Mr. Romano said.
