Blue Devil Girls’ Golf Successfully Rebuilds

June 4, 2025

The Huntington varsity girls’ golf team successfully completed a rebuilding season, restocking its ranks and winning four matches in a tough league.

The Blue Devils were coached by Michael Marinello who was assisted by volunteers Robert Colvin, Michele Kustera and Jenna Merget.

Huntington was led by juniors Sofia Vias and Claire Parks, who both garnered All-League honors. The pair helped the Blue Devils win several close matches.

“Almost all of the starters are returning,” Marinello said. The coach hopes to win 10 matches next spring and vie for the league title.

Marinello said he is looking for players to make a strong commitment to the sport and the team. He seeks consistent attendance at both practices and matches. He’s also looking to improve upon the team “dynamic.”

Vias looks to come into her senior season as perhaps the Blue Devils’ top golfer. “Sofia is a dedicated athlete who has worked in the offseason to improve her skills,” Marinello said.

The team used simulators during the cold opening weeks of the season, training in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School gym. It shot practice rounds and hosted home meets at the town’s Dix Hills Park.
