Summer of Art Fun at Extended Year Program
July 23, 2025
Huntington UFSD art teacher Nicholas J. Matarazzo has a way of bringing out the best in his students and making his classes fun. He’s working his magic again this summer in the district’s extended year program at Woodhull School.
“Students are having a fantastic summer of art,” Mr. Matarazzo said. “We are doing projects that are focusing on fine motor skills, bright colors and fun. So far, we have done a sculpture project that required students to put pipe cleaners and beads, feathers and other items into Styrofoam.”
Students are currently finishing up one of Mr. Matarazzo’s favorite styles of artwork; a mosaic. The students are making a mosaic out of paper to form a smiley face.
“We have a few more fun projects to come,” Mr. Matarazzo said. “I am so proud of all these kids, they are working hard and doing a fanatic job creating some amazing pieces of artwork.”
Mr. Matarazzo earned an undergraduate degree at Farmingdale State College and a master’s degree at CUNY Queens College. He graduated with Huntington High School’s Class of 2013. He’s coached baseball teams at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and the high school. He has also been employed as a landscape designer by Mossy Pine Designs.
