HHS Sees Record Growth in AP Enrollment and Achievement
July 9, 2025
Huntington High School continues to demonstrate academic excellence with remarkable growth in its Advanced Placement program over the past five years.
The number of students participating in AP courses and exams has steadily increased, as has student performance, with more students earning college-ready scores of 3 or higher than ever before.
In 2025, 450 students participated in at least one AP course; a significant 11.66 percent increase from 2024 and a 29.68 percent increase since 2021. The number of exams administered grew even more dramatically, from 876 in 2024 to 1,109 in 2025, representing a 26.6 percent increase in just one year.
More importantly, AP success rates have also improved. This year, 84.22 percent of students who took AP exams scored a 3 or higher, compared to 76.18 percent in 2024, marking a 10.55 percent increase in the percentage of high-scoring students.
Dr. Ricky Papandrea, district director of school counseling and testing, attributes this success to a combination of high expectations, skilled teaching and student commitment.
“These results reflect the incredible effort our students and teachers put into academic excellence,” Dr. Papandrea said. “We continue to expand access to AP courses while maintaining a strong support system to ensure our students are not only participating, but thriving.”
The upward trend in AP participation and performance speaks to the school’s commitment to rigorous coursework and college readiness. As Huntington continues to grow its AP program, the goal remains clear: to challenge students, foster curiosity, and prepare them for postsecondary success.
