Ms. Brown presented the new members with certificates. Ms. Egan and Ms. Stanzione administered the National Honor Society pledge.
“Here at Huntington High School, we stand on the shoulders of generations who have built, shaped and strengthened this community,” Ms. Brown said. “Now, you add your chapter to that story. Your service; your willingness to use your time, your talent and your heart for others, continues that legacy. As you step into the responsibilities of being National Honor Society members, I challenge you to view service not as an obligation, but as an opportunity. An opportunity to lead with humility. To push for justice. To stand up for what is right. To be a voice for those whose voices go unheard. To imagine a better world and then work to build it. The essence of service is understanding that we belong to one another. That our lives are intertwined. That your success, your compassion, your leadership, your courage; they ripple outward and make all of us better.”
A reception followed the induction in the main lobby outside the auditorium. Parents snapped photos and students showed off their membership certificates.
The National Honor Society’s motto is “Noblesse Oblige,” a French term that translates in English to “nobility obligates.” The new members are expected to assist all students on the path toward academic excellence through a variety of tutoring and community service activities.
