Finley Life Skills Class Hosts Thanksgiving Luncheon
December 1, 2025
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School Life Skills class wrapped up a wonderful hands-on project by hosting a Thanksgiving luncheon in their classroom that drew faculty members along with building and district level officials.
The students took a trip to the local Stop & Shop store to practice shopping, budgeting and planning skills. “They picked out all the ingredients themselves, created a menu and worked together to prep and cook a full Thanksgiving feast,” Finley teacher Mary Brandt said. “We invited families and school administrators to join us, and the classroom was transformed into a cozy restaurant.”
Each student had an important job, whether it was serving as a waiter, preparing plates as part of the chef team, or taking drink orders and making coffee as a barista.
“The event was a great way for students to show off their hard work, teamwork and growing independence,” Ms. Brandt said. “It was a warm, joyful celebration that truly brought our classroom community together. We truly appreciate all who took the time to attend and celebrate with us.”
The students were proud of how all their hard work turned out and of the many compliments they received. The guests were impressed and appreciative of the invitation to share in the luncheon.
