Huntington Freshman Full of Energy at Orientation
August 29, 2025
Hundreds of incoming Huntington High School freshmen and their parents attended an orientation program earlier this week. Students took tours of the building, met with counselors, learned about the academic and after school club programs and gained a greater understanding of the support mechanisms in place to help them achieve success.
“As the principal, it is my absolute privilege to greet you as you look forward to this incredible chapter in your academic career,” Principal Rochelle C. Brown said. “I am so honored to be your principal and cannot wait to officially have you as my student in September. You are joining a community that believes in your potential and is dedicated to your success. Over the next few years, you will have countless opportunities to grow as learners, leaders and individuals. Whether it’s excelling in the classroom, discovering new talents or building lasting friendships, this is your time to shine.”
There were discussions on how to go about maximizing classroom performance, effective study habits, utilizing the extra help schedule, required courses, credits and state assessments as well as diploma options.
A long list of elective courses was shared. Students were told that instead of being scheduled for a study hall, they have dozens of different opportunities over the nine-period day to select an elective class.
“Our school is a place where everyone is encouraged to dream big, work hard and achieve greatness,” Ms. Brown said. Remember, you are never alone on this journey. Your teachers, staff and I are here to support and guide you every step of the way.”
Students were provided with the Remind app code for the Class of 2029: @hunt2029. The importance of being involved was stressed.
Most of the incoming freshmen are “graduates” of J. Taylor Finley Middle School, but several dozen of the students transferred into Huntington High School for the current school year.
Parents and students enjoyed lunch in the school cafeteria to wrap up this year’s orientation program.
