Weinschreider (28 goals; 9 assists) was on top of her game and her exceptional play was contagious as five teammates also scored in the game. Sabrina Boyle (29g; 7a) tallied three goals and an assist and Grace Gordon (20g; 17a) notched a pair of goals and two assists. Bridget Callery (9g; 6a), Jenna Italiano (5g, 3a) and Grace Kline (3g; 1a) also scored goals in the game.

“I think we played really well as a unit, said Isabella Palacios, who is one of the team’s defensive stars. “We had a lot of key interceptions that helped us regain possession and our clears were really sharp. We transitioned the ball to offense efficiently. Our communication was strong, especially when it came to calling out cutters in the middle. Overall, it was a great team effort.”

Huntington led 4-0 after the first period and 6-1 at halftime. The Blue Devils outscored the Lions in the second half, 8-3. Juliet Johnson made nine saves in goal before Andie DiGioia came on to secure the win. The sophomore made one stop.

“Our offense had very good spacing today because of communication on the field and that led to our ball movement being quick and efficient, Weinschreider said. “We kept making the right decisions, which led to me scoring goals, as well as the rest of the girls on our team.”

Huntington has six regular season games remaining on its schedule. The Blue Devils will travel to Walt Whitman on Tuesday for a 4:45 p.m. game.

With every win comes added confidence. Boyle said the key to beating Longwood was “proving to ourselves that we can consistently play 110 percent every game, regardless of the competition. We came out strong and maintained our composure throughout the entire game, which created good opportunities for defensive stops and goals.”

Palacios along with Ava McDonald, Kyra Larsen, Leigh Evans, Cameron Smith, Madyn Kalb and a rotating midfielder have given Huntington a defensive unit that is the envy of many Long Island teams.

Coaches Katie Reilly, Chris Taylor and Lauren Blackburn are pleased with how the team has been playing and want to finish the regular season on a high note.
