Flower Hill First Graders at the Public Library for Earth Day

April 28, 2025

Flower Hill Primary School first graders went on a great adventure at the Huntington Public Library to celebrate Earth Day 2025. The day was filled with engaging activities, including crafts, science experiments, movement games and plenty of time with books.

A highlight of the trip was a captivating presentation by Alkemy Ice Cream, located on Main Street in Huntington. Students explored the different states of matter through a live demonstration. They watched in awe as cream, sugar and liquid nitrogen, at a chilling temperature of minus 321 degrees Fahrenheit, were mixed to instantly create ice cream.

In addition, students applied for their very own library cards and were thrilled to check out brand new books. Laura Giuliani, the head librarian, introduced the students to the many resources the facility has to offer. By the end of the trip, the verdict was unanimous; students gave the experience a 10 out of 10!

The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970 when about 20 million people across the United States participated in environmental teach-ins and related activities. It is estimated that this year, more than a billion people in nearly 200 countries celebrated Earth Day in their respective communities by doing their part to help save the increasingly fragile environment.
