Patrick Reilly has returned to his alma mater. The Huntington High School Class of 2013 member has been appointed as the Blue Devil junior varsity boys’ basketball team coach. The season begins on Monday, November 13.
Reilly earned high school varsity letters in soccer, football, basketball and lacrosse. He captained and helped lead the Blue Devil basketball team into the Section XI playoffs as a senior, capturing All-Conference honors. He was named the team’s MVP.

The Huntington alum graduated last spring from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Reilly played on the college’s lacrosse team for all four years that he studied at the school.
He will be coaching on a staff headed by Brian Carey, who coached Reilly on the Blue Devil team during his high school years. When Carey heard his former player might be available and interested in the position, he leaped at the chance to bring him back into the Huntington hardcourt fold.
Captain of the Blue Devil lacrosse team during high school, Reilly scored 24 goals and added eight assists as a junior and notched 27 goals and 11 assists as a senior, playing a key role on the squad that reached the Suffolk finals. He was a two-time All-Division honoree and a member of the 2013 All-County team. He was named the team’s Offensive MVP.
Reilly also earned All-Division honors in football, kicking countless extra points and field goals as the Blue Devils marched into the playoffs.
Reilly was the recipient of the Ray Deren Memorial Scholarship as a Huntington senior. It was presented to him by members of the Deren family at the 45th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards banquet in June 2013.
Reilly’s parents, Tom and Caroline, probably figured they were through watching games in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium and on the road after their son and daughter, Katie (Class of 2016) had graduated. But, it’s a safe bet both will be back in the bleachers watching the Blue Devil JV boys’ basketball team on the court this winter.
