Jefferson Primary School recently honored dozens of well-deserving students. Citizen of the Month Awards were presented along with Featured Artist of the Month recognition.
One student from each class is recognized as Citizen of the Week for demonstrating respectful, responsible and safe behaviors. The honorees are announced every Friday during a “happy news” segment. Students receive a prize. One student from each class is also recognized as Citizen of the Month during a monthly Jefferson assembly.
February’s Citizen of the Month Award recipients include Sarai Benitez Vanegas, Hanna Boyle, Bella Duke, Franklin Escobar, Deveren Flynn, Neymar Gomez Apolonio, Robinson Guillen, Ruby Hoffman, Elliot Manu, David Grenados Medrano, Leah MacManus, Ethan Mortensen, Jonathan Naborre, Marta Reyes, Estiven Sevovia-Ticas, Benjamin Soric and Jonathan Soviero.

March’s Featured Artists of the Month include Angie Alvarez, Lucas Biancardo, Christopher Chavez Rivas, Annibella Fazin, Oliver Frintzilas, Xavion Greene, Daniel Kasindorf, Miranda Kincaid, Karen Lopez Del Cid, Yarissa Maldonado Acosta, Lyric Martin, Christopher Martinez, Jostin Ramirez, Jose Reyes-Benitez, Alexandra Rubenstein, Cedar Stanforth and Edwin Vasquez Villatoro.
The artwork of Jefferson’s Featured Artists is now on display in the school’s main hallway. Art teacher Maria Mazzola recently posed for a photo with the talented youngsters.
“It’s a pleasure to be able to recognize so many deserving youngsters,” Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said. “They were so excited to be honored and are wonderful role models for their classmates.”
Ms. Capitulo-Saide has been Jefferson Primary School’s principal since August 1, 2012. She came to Huntington after serving three years as principal of PS 101Q-The School of the Gardens in Forest Hills, Queens. She worked earlier as that school's assistant principal for two years.
Ms. Capitulo-Saide earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in creative studies-dance at Hofstra University. She pursued graduate level studies at LIU-C.W. Post College, obtaining a Master of Science in elementary education and a certificate in education administration-school building leader.
