The Huntington High School Alumni Association presented a trio of graduating seniors with special recognition during the annual academic awards ceremony held last month in the auditorium.
This year’s coveted alumni cups and $100 Amazon gift cards were presented to Nicholas Lanzisero and Erin Morrisroe. The cups are “awarded based upon character, leadership, sportsmanship and dedication to school and community,” said Emily Rogan, who serves as the organization’s recording secretary.
Mr. Lanzisero is headed to Binghamton University while Ms. Morrisroe will be attending the University of Virginia. The duo were among the leading members of the Class of 2017.

A key member of the high school’s robotics team, Mr. Lanzisero also excelled on the football field for the Blue Devils. President of the Young Leaders youth development organization, the teenager is currently undecided about a college academic major.
Ms. Morrisroe is interested in studying biochemistry at the university that Thomas Jefferson founded in 1819. Known throughout the high school and community as an upstanding young woman of conviction, purpose and drive, the teenager also won varsity letters with the Blue Devil soccer, indoor track and field and lacrosse teams.
Joseph Mangan Captures $2,000 Alumni Scholarship
The Huntington Alumni Association also presented a $2,000 scholarship to senior Joseph Mangan. The award is based upon “character, citizenship, willingness to help others and academic potential,” according to Mrs. Rogan. Scholarship recipients must have at least one parent who is a Huntington graduate.
Mr. Mangan will be attending Siena College in Loudonville near Albany. He plans to study business/accounting. The teenager interned with the Huntington Foundation for Excellence in Education during his senior year. He was on the tennis and robotics teams.
“The goal of the Huntington Alumni Association is simple: To connect Huntington’s past to its future through the strength of our tradition,” said Mrs. Rogan, who was joined on the auditorium stage for the awards presentation by the organization’s President Thomas DiGiacomo. The group is trying to build a database of graduate’s names and contact information and is asking alums to log onto www.huntingtonhighalumni.org and join its mailing list by registering online.
It only takes minutes to register with the Huntington Alumni Association online. It’s easy for graduates to reconnect with their alma mater. Membership for new grads is a nominal $5 and for other alums there are several options available on the organization’s website.
