January 12, 2017

The Huntington School Board has adopted a proposed district calendar for the 2017/18 school year. Trustees voted unanimously at their January 9 public meeting to approve the plan, which will have school begin on Wednesday, September 6 and finish on Friday, June 22, 2018.

Teachers and staff are required to their buildings for meetings on Tuesday, September 5, with students starting classes the following day. There will be 180 days of instruction with two other days set aside for faculty conferences. Two contingency days are also built into the plan to address possible school closings due to snow or other emergencies.

Schools will be closed on September 21-22 (Rosh Hashanah) October 9 (Columbus Day), November 7 (Election Day/Supt. Conference Day), November 10 (Veterans Day), November 22-24 (Thanksgiving recess), December 25-January 1 (Winter recess), January 15 (Martin Luther King Day), February 19-23 (mid-Winter recess), March 30-April 6 (Spring recess) and May 28 (Memorial Day). There are no days off in June.

If there are no weather related closures, March 29 and May 25 will be converted to vacation days. If school is closed due to a weather emergency, classes will be held on May 25. If a second closure is required, classes will also be held on March 29.

A copy of the 2017/18 calendar is posted on the district’s website at www.hufsd.edu. Go to the Quick Clicks on the top right of homepage and go to General Interest on the dropdown menu and select District Directory/Calendar. Scroll down to School Calendars.
