Alexandra Heuwetter Sets New 3-Point Record

All-County senior captain Alexandra Heuwetter poured in 25 points, but it wasn’t enough at Sachem North held on to turn back the Huntington girls’ basketball team in a non-league game, 41-38.

Heuwetter dropped what might be a program record seven three-point baskets, but the Flaming Arrows outscored the Blue Devils over the final eight minutes, 12-6 to win for the fifth time in sixth games.

Sachem North jumped out to a 17-6 first quarter lead before Huntington went on a 10-2 run in the second frame to cut its deficit to 19-16 by halftime. The Blue Devils closed to within a point by the end of three quarters, 32-31, but despite many opportunities, couldn’t take the lead in the final minutes.

Preliminary research indicates Heuwetter established a new Blue Devil record for the most baskets beyond the arc in a single game. Nicole Leslie had eight points for Huntington (3-2) and Abby Maichin added four points.
