The Huntington High School varsity football team reached the playoffs this fall and now nine Blue Devil players have claimed post-season honors.
Seniors Sam Bergman and Clayton Jamison captured All-Division and All-County recognition. Juniors John P. Paci IV, Eric Sands and Sebastian Abreu and seniors Alex LaBella, Luke Eidle, Shateek Parler and Anthony McDonald all earned All-Division honors.
Bergman and Jamison were honored this past Monday night at the Suffolk Football Coaches Association’s annual county awards banquet at the Hyatt Regency in Hauppauge.
Bergman was also a finalist for the James LaBue Award, presented to the county’s top scholar football player. He was named to the National Football Foundation’s Golden Eleven team, which includes the top scholar athlete football players in Suffolk.
“We are all very proud of all of these fine young men,” said head coach Steve Muller, who attended this week’s county dinner along with assistants Todd Jamison and Ron Wilson. “They gave us everything they had and represented our program, school and community with class.”
Huntington compiled a 5-3 regular season record. The Blue Devils topped Copiague (41-0), Deer Park (28-7), Smithtown West (28-23), Newfield (21-14) and Riverhead (20-19) and dropped games to North Babylon (32-7), West Islip (20-17) and Bay Shore (28-14). Huntington lost a heartbreaking playoff verdict to Half Hollow Hills East, 14-10.
“We are already looking forward to next season,” Muller said.
