Vogelsang Named Asst. Varsity Girls’ Lax Coach
The Huntington High School varsity girls’ lacrosse coaching staff is starting to take shape. Elizabeth Vogelsang has been named assistant coach. Trustees voted unanimously to appoint the part-time physical education teacher to the post during a public meeting on Monday night.
Known as Beth, Ms. Vogelsang earned a Bachelor of Science degree at SUNY Cortland in physical education in 2013. Prior to coming to Huntington, she worked as a per diem substitute in Islip and a permanent substitute in South Huntington at Countrywood Primary Center.
District officials reviewed 32 applications, pre-screened 16 candidates and conducted eight extensive interviews prior to recommending Ms. Vogelsang for her teaching appointment.
Ms. Vogelsang was Huntington’s junior varsity girls’ volleyball coach this fall. She is teaching classes at both the high school and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.
A 2009 graduate of East Islip High School, Ms. Vogelsang played midfield for three years on the Redmen’s varsity girls’ lacrosse team. She also ran on East Islip’s cross country and winter track teams. She was a New York State Scholar Athlete Award recipient in high school.
Huntington’s new varsity assistant coach tallied four goals and an assist along with three ground balls in seven games as a SUNY Cortland freshman.
Trustees are expected to appoint the girls’ lacrosse team’s head coach during one of its upcoming meetings.
