Taylor Moreno Named MVP at Lake Placid Lax Tournament

The stage appears to be set for Taylor Moreno to have a sensational year, academically and athletically. The Huntington High School senior is expected to play leading roles on the Blue Devil soccer, winter track and field and lacrosse teams.

Ms. Moreno is an All-State soccer goalie and the reigning Suffolk Division II indoor long jump champion. She has given a verbal commitment to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

This summer, Ms. Moreno has been sharpening her skills in goal at a string of lacrosse tournaments, including last week at the Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Classic, where she once again captured Most Valuable Player honors-the second time in recent weeks.

Playing on the Baby Blues, a team of high school students committed to play at UNC, Ms. Moreno was at her best throughout the tournament. The teenager recorded nine saves in the Girls’ 2016-2018 Gold Division championship game against Western New York based Lady Roc 2017 Yellow. The Pennsylvania based Baby Blues earned a 10-5 victory in the hard fought contest. Ms. Moreno’s coaches chose her as the team MVP.

“It was great to get a chance to come up here again and to get to work with everybody and get that chemistry before we get to school,” Ms. Moreno said. “The experience itself, to bond with everybody and the tournament was so much fun, so laid back. It was a great experience for all of us.”

An excellent student academically, Ms. Moreno is undecided on a possible college major at UNC. Inside Lacrosse magazine’s scouting report on the teenager notes: “Incredible outlet, field player out of the cage, quick hands and athletic.”

Ms. Moreno said the time she spent in Lake Placid with her future North Carolina teammates was valuable as the young women went about getting to know each other better on and off the field. Of course, winning the tournament title made their time together even more special.
