Allen Finishes Second in NYS Track Championships
Y’Majesty Allen made history at last weekend’s New York State Track and Field Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. The Huntington High School senior finished second in the 200m dash and set a new Blue Devil record of 21.61 seconds in the event.
Allen placed second in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Division I 200m dash and then went on to take fourth place in the State Federation (public, private, parochial and New York City) race, an impressive showing in a very high powered field
“Y’Majesty was just splendid,” said Ronald Wilson, Huntington’s head coach. “He ran a great series of races against extremely talented runners. These were some of the best sprinters in the country and Y’Majesty was right there with them every step of the way.”
Allen qualified for the finals with a fine effort Friday afternoon, although his time of 21.81 seconds was far off his personal best. “It was my first time in the state spring track championships and I was a little stressed about it,” the teenager said. “I was tight. I didn’t run my best race.”
Allen went on to run two superb races on Saturday, including a blistering performance in the State Federation finals. His time of 21.61 seconds broke his previous school record in the event of 21.62 by 1/100th of a second.
“I’m really proud of how well I ran,” said Allen about his showing in the state finals. “These guys were very good, especially Andrae Hunter (who won the state crown). “I’m very happy.”
Allen was named one of five Suffolk County Track and Field MVPs at a dinner last week at the Hyatt Regency in Hauppauge. He was undefeated this year in league competition in the 100m, 200m and 400m dash and as the anchor for Huntington’s 4x400m relay.
Allen is the Suffolk champion in the 200m and 400m dashes.

Huntington junior Sondy Jean-Baptiste finished 17th in the state high jump championship after clearing 6’2. Jean-Baptiste was hampered by a knee injury he sustained during practice at CNS High School on Friday. The teenager’s best effort in the event this year was 6’4. If he had been able to duplicate that last weekend he would have placed as high as fifth in the state.
“It wasn’t Sondy’s day,” Wilson said. “Now that he has a taste of the state championships, hopefully he’ll work hard and want to get back there and perform even better.”
Jean-Baptiste is Suffolk’s high jump champion.
