But Isaac deserves most of the credit.”

Finley Boys’ VB Goes Winless

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ volleyball team finished its season with a record of 0-8 under head coach Chris Mooney. The 14-player Falcon squad was captained by eighth graders Edward Carroll, Luke Giordano, Andrew Alvarado and Brian Restivo.

Mooney said the top players on the team were Carroll, Restivo, Alvarado and seventh grader Thomas Shea.

A middle block, Carroll was a standout for Finley. “Eddie has worked extremely hard over the past two years to become a better player,” Mooney said. “He went from someone who could not put a serve over the net to the best server on the team, while easily leading the team in aces.”

Restivo starred at setter. “Brian is an excellent all-around athlete who can play any position on the court,” Mooney said. “He has the potential to be an excellent volleyball player.”

Alvarado was another superb Falcon setter. “Andrew has excellent hands and was the best natural setter on the team,” Mooney said. “He is also a great server and has excellent potential moving forward.”

Shea is one of Finley’s best underclassmen. “Thomas is an outstanding athlete who never gives up on a play,” Mooney said.

The highlight of the season came during a loss to Stimson, a cross-town rival. “Stimson is an excellent team and helped us play our best overall match of the season,” Mooney said. “In one of the games we were down 24-12 and Eddie Carroll served 12 straight points to get us back into the game. Although we ended up losing, it was by far the best we played all season.”

The roster also included Griffin Bluemer, Dylan Bluemer, Michael Colon, Michael Fleming, David Fredericks, Christian Hannah, Robert Meagher, Nicholas Otto and Hugh Smith.
