The Huntington High School boys' lacrosse team hosted Hauppauge and dropped a 12-9 verdict to the Eagles. The Blue Devils trailed 4-1 after the first quarter and fell behind 7-3 by halftime.
Huntington outscored Hauppauge in the second half, 6-5, but it wasn't enough to make up the Blue Devil deficit. Jack Cutrone and Ben Kocis scored three goals each. Pat Reilly notched two goals and two assists. P.J. Beach also scored. Josh Long and Mike Marchetta contributed assists. T.J. Greenhill made 10 saves in goal.
3-Set Victory for Max Fehrs
Max Fehrs has been around the game of tennis since before he could walk. He's received expert instruction over the years and it is paying off for the Huntington High School boys' tennis team. Playing at home against Kings Park, the Blue Devil junior captured second singles, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 as Huntington coasted to a 6-1 victory.
Finley Girls' BB-8 Goes 7-3
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School eighth grade girls' basketball team closed out the season with a 7-3 mark under head coach Phil Lowe. The 15-player Falcon squad was captained by Samantha Conte, Taylor Moreno and Emma DeGennaro.
Hauppauge Explodes
The Hauppauge girls' lacrosse team exploded for an avalanche of goals as the Eagles remained undefeated by topping Huntington, 16-4. Hauppauge built an 8-3 first half lead and then outscored the Blue Devils in the second frame, 8-1.
Alexis Thompson scored two goals for Huntington. Alyssa Amorison and Hannah Burnett also scored in the game. Anna Tesoriero stopped 10 shots for the Blue Devils.
No-Hitter for Beatty
Freshman Kelly Beatty tossed a no-hitter for the Huntington junior varsity softball team as the Blue Devils defeated Bellport, 18-0.
Two Straight Wins
After losing its first two meets to Kings Park (90-60) and Comsewogue (79-71) the Huntington girls' track and field team won two straight by topping Deer Park (134-13.5) and Eastport-South Manor (92-51).
Finley Girls' BB-7 Nearly Perfect
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School seventh grade girls' basketball team was nearly perfect, compiling a 9-1 record under head coach Rick Agnello. The 16-player squad was captained by Anna Gulizio, Emma Petrizzi and Tara Wilson. The Falcons' only loss came at the hands of Commack-7, 46-26.
The Byrnes Sisters
Freshman sisters Tara and Ellyn Byrnes are a big part of the Huntington girls' softball team. The teenagers played a major role in the Blue Devils' 7-2 victory over Bellport. Tara belted a two-run double in the home half of the sixth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and send Huntington on its way to a much needed win. Ellyn was the winning pitching, tossing another gem on the mound. Senior Laurelle Byrne-Cody slapped out two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Kings Park Lax Edges HHS
The Kings Park girls' lacrosse team edged Huntington, 10-8. The score was knotted at halftime, 6-6. The Kingsmen outscored the Blue Devils in the second frame, 4-2 to clinch the victory.
Alexis Thompson scored three goals for Huntington and Stephanie Rafuse put two balls in the net. Alyssa Amorison, Colleen Wright and Hannah Burnett each contributed one goal and one assist. Blue Devil goalie Anna Tesoriero made 10 saves.
Finley Wrestling Finishes at 10-2
The J. Taylor Finley Middle School wrestling team went 8-2 this past season under head coach Mike Marinello and assistant coach Louis R. Giani. The 25 man roster was captained by Jon Canas and Michael Bast.
The top wrestlers included Ryan Mock (11-1), Bast (11-1), Canas (10-2), Ryan Postiglione (9-2), Burak Toprak (9-2) and Matt Lindner (4-1). Marinello said the highlight of the season came in a victory over a "very tough" West Hollow Middle School team.
"I feel we got the most out of the team," Marinello said. A preponderance of the wrestlers fell between 120-140 lbs.
Byrnes Drives in Winning Run
Freshman Tara Byrnes smacked a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to bring across the tying and winning runs as the Huntington softball team topped Westhampton Beach, 5-4. Blue Devil pitcher Ellyn Byrnes was masterful on the mound, hurling her way to another victory.
Reilly Scores Six Goals
Patrick Reilly was simply unstoppable, scoring six goals and leading the Huntington boys' lacrosse team over visiting East Hampton, 13-1. The Blue Devil offense also received help from Chris Schoen (three goals, one assist), Tom Mulligan (1g, 1a), Spencer Colwin (1g), Phil Cadorette (1g), Mike Albini (1g), Ben Kocis (2a), Jack Cutrone (2a), Pat Wolber (2a), P.J. Beach (2a) and John Bosco (1a).
Huntington goalie T.J. Greenhill made nine saves. Don Tesoriero and Todd Colvin both came on to stop one shot each in the Blue Devil net.
Blue Devil Net Squad Tough
The Huntington boys' tennis team is tough this spring. The Blue Devil varsity has won its first six league matches, including a 6-1 victory late last week over visiting John H. Glenn.
Huntington is benefitting from outstanding play in both singles and doubles. Against the Knights, seniors P.J. Hofsiss and Jeff Sun won in three sets in second doubles, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
