Huntington High School softball pitcher Jackie Herrington threw a five-hit shutout, striking out 10 batters as the Blue Devils edged Center Moriches, 2-0.

Herrington also banged out an RBI double to give Huntington its first win of the season. The Blue Devils are coached by John Walsh and Charles Maccio.

Lunch on Booster Club

When hundreds of coaches and athletes gather for the Long Island region's annual Special Olympics Spring Games North at Huntington High School on Sunday, April 15, lunch will be on the Huntington Booster Club.

"This was made possible through a generous donation by Clever Devices," Huntington Booster Club President Barbara Cutrone said.

HHS Lax v. CSH on April 14

The Huntington High School boys' varsity lacrosse team will host powerful Cold Spring Harbor in the Diabetes Shootout at Blue Devil Stadium on Saturday, April 14 at 2 p.m. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Huntington Booster Club will be on the scene, selling food and refreshments out of the field house and offering a full line of Blue Devil apparel from the group's distinctive blue-and-white trailer.

The Booster Club is encouraging fans to donate gently used sports equipment for the Devils' Den, an initiative that puts items needed for athletic participation into the hands of student-athletes who cannot afford the equipment. Fans can drop-off any items they wish to donate at the Booster Club's trailer, which will be parked adjacent to the field.

Cutrone Scores Four Goals in Loss

Senior Jack Cutrone scored four goals, but the Blue Devil boys' lacrosse team fell to Eastport-South Manor, 13-6. Dan Plant added two goals and two assists for the Blue Devils.

The Sharks jumped out to a 4-2 first quarter lead and held a 9-4 halftime advantage. Huntington couldn't make up the difference in the second half. T.J. Greenhill stopped 12 shots in goal for the Blue Devils.

Huntington Wins Thriller, 9-8

The Huntington girls' lacrosse team used a strong second half to overcome a 7-4 deficit and nip visiting Deer Park, 9-8. Alyssa Amorison scored the game winning goal off an assist from Alexis Thompson with 52 seconds remaining in the game.

Trailing 8-7 with less than two minutes left on the scoreboard, Mackenzie Maloney found the back of the net for Huntington to knot the score. The Blue Devils scored five of the game's six second half goals.

Thompson enjoyed an outstanding game, with three goals and three assists. Katie Healy contributed two goals and an assist. Hannah Burnett had a goal and an assist. Annie Nugent also added a goal and Amorison picked up an assist.

Huntington goalies Fiona Geier (eight saves) and Anna Tesoriero (five saves) combined to stop 13 shots for the Blue Devils.

Beck Hammering the Ball

James Beck is hammering the ball for the Iona College baseball team. Entering this week, the 2008 Huntington High School alum has collected 27 hits this spring, including six doubles and four homeruns. Beck's 26 runs batted in are a team high for the Gaels. He has a .523 slugging percentage and has started all 22 games in which he has appeared.

Beck earned varsity letters in three sports at Huntington High School, contributing to the Blue Devil football, basketball and baseball teams. He was All-League three consecutive years in baseball, All-Division in football as a senior and a Suffolk Gold Key Award recipient. A fine student, he garnered a National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Award.

Blue Devils are Impressive

The Huntington boys' track and field team's 91-49 victory over visiting Kings Park can only be called very impressive. In a meet that featured fine performances, Shaheem Lewis launched the discus 165.10 feet to capture that event and Ryan Ackerman glided across the finish line first in the 1600m run.

A Satisfying Victory

The Huntington boys' lacrosse team jumped out to an early 3-1 lead before visiting Bayport-Blue Point outscored the Blue Devils 5-1 in the second quarter to move ahead 6-4 at halftime. But, the second half belonged to Huntington, which earned a satisfying 11-9 victory behind a career high four goals by P.J. Beach.

Brad Dwyer won 9-of-11 face-offs for the Blue Devils who received great offense from Jack Cutrone (two goals, three assists), Dan Plant, (2g, 1a), Tom Mulligan (1g, 1a), Pat Reilly (1g), Chris Schoen (1g) and Billy Martin (1a). Goalie T. J. Greenhill made 15 saves for Huntington.

Casey Scully on a Roll

Casey Scully is on a roll. The 2008 Huntington High School alum is having a splendid season on the Iona College women's lacrosse team. Entering this week, Scully has 20 goals and four assists and has helped Iona get off to a 6-4 start.

The former Blue Devil great has turned in a series of strong games in the past two weeks. Against Cincinnati, Scully scored five goals in a 21-13 Iona victory. Against the US Naval Academy in a game played at Annapolis, Scully scored a goal, but the Gaels fell to the Midshipmen, 19-8.

In an 18-5 loss to Stony Brook, Scully scored a pair of goals. In a comeback victory over Columbia last Friday, Scully notched a hat trick. Her three goals helped lift the Gaels to an 11-10 win.

Tennis Opens at 2-2

The Huntington boys' tennis team split its first four matches of the season, beating Smithtown East (4-3) and John Glenn (6-1) and losing to Half Hollow Hills West (7-0) and Harborfields (6-1).

The meet again at Smithtown East was the most exciting of the spring so far. Huntington seventh grader Cody Bograd captured third singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to clinch the victory for the Blue Devils.
