Jefferson Math & Reading Challenge Honorees

With less than four months remaining in the school year, Jefferson Primary School teachers and students aren’t about to take their foot off the proverbial academic gas pedal.
The Jefferson school community is squarely focused on improving every aspect of its academic performance and students are working hard on their part.
Jefferson has challenged youngsters in the building with math and reading contests that have resulted in students putting in extra hours and having fun while doing it. When the regular school day ends, learning isn’t stopping.
February’s Jefferson Math Challenge honorees include Ethan Murphy, Alexandra Manzanares-Hernandez, Katerin Garcia and Isabelle Mancia. The youngsters answered questions on their own time. It wasn’t long before smiles were seen on their faces when members of the group learned their respective answers were correct.
The success of the monthly math contest has led the school to create a monthly reading challenge, too.
“In an effort to have students practice the skill of answering a question and providing text relevant details, students submit answers for our new Jefferson Reading Challenge,” Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said. “These challenge questions are short response questions aligned with the Common Core ELA exam. Students are asked to read the Treasures Reading texts and respond. We are proud of our first Reading Challenge winners.”
The inaugural monthly reading contest honorees include Anthony Jimenez, George Gomez, Axel Parker and Alexandra Manzanares-Hernandez.
There’s still plenty of time left in the school year for even more Jefferson students to participate in the monthly academic contests.
