Senior Ann Glackin Captures Students Building Bridges Award

Huntington High School senior Ann Glackin has captured the Students Building Bridges Award sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island.
Ms. Glackin will be publicly honored “for her efforts in building bridges across communities and creating a more civil society” at Suffolk County’s Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) program on May 12 at Suffolk County Community College in Selden. An array of county and state legislators are expected to attend the awards ceremony and buffet dinner.
“Ann is a multi-talented, thoughtful and conscientious individual who is so deserving of this honor,” Huntington Principal Brenden Cusack said. “I wish her sincere congratulations. We are all very proud of her and her efforts.”
Vice president of Huntington’s A World of Difference club, Ms. Glackin is the senior editor of Etcetera, the high school literary magazine. She is the historian of the Tri-M music honor society and an integral member of the drama club. The teenager intends to study theater performance and English in college.
One of the top seniors academically in the Class of 2016, Ms. Glackin was recently recognized at the high school’s annual Distinguished Seniors dinner. “The key to my success has been my determination to push past the boundaries of my comfort zone,” she said.
The senior has performed with the high school chamber choir, studied fashion design, developed close relationships with numerous faculty members, including English teacher Victoria Lombardi and served as a peer mediator.
“She is a role model for her classmates and greatly deserves this recognition,” said Robyn Berman, program director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island.
