Six Proud Washington Math Challenge Honorees

These kids couldn’t have been happier. Six Washington Primary School students were honored as the February Math Challenge Award recipients after solving various math problems correctly on their own time.

Third graders Kiana Alfaro-Hernandez, Natalie Parrott and Parker Hepworth and fourth graders Veronica Cocoman, Varun Ratti and Matthew Ambrozy were all recognized during a ceremony in the main lobby presided over by Principal Marsha Neville and math teacher Christine Lofaro.

Dozens of students participated in the most recent math contest. The initiative encourages youngsters to work at home on a set of problems. The goal is to have students improve their skills and overall academic performance as a result of the extra time spent challenging themselves.

Mrs. Neville took the airwaves one recent morning to let everyone in the building know who had won the February numbers contest. The honorees were given certificates and posed for a group photo in the lobby.

“We are very pleased that so many students were willing to challenge themselves at home,” Mrs. Neville said. They all derived a sense of accomplishment figuring out the answers to various problems. Our latest award winners have every right to be proud of their accomplishment.”
