Trustees Adopt Revised School Calendar for 2016/17

The Huntington School Board has adopted a revised district calendar for the 2016/17 school year. Trustees voted unanimously at their February 11 public meeting to approve the plan, which will have school begin on Wednesday, September 7 and finish on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Teachers and staff are required to their buildings for meetings on Tuesday, September 6, with students starting classes the following day. There will be 180 days of instruction with two other days set aside for faculty conferences. Two contingency days are also built into the plan to address possible school closings due to snow or other emergencies.

Schools will be closed on October 3-4 (Rosh Hashanah) October 10 (Columbus Day), October 12 (Yom Kippur), November 8 (Election Day/Supt. Conference Day), November 11 (Veterans Day), November 24-25 (Thanksgiving recess), December 26-January 2 (Winter recess), January 16 (Martin Luther King Day), February 20-24 (mid-winter recess), April 10-14 (Spring recess) and May 29 (Memorial Day). There are no days off in either March or June.

If there are no weather related closures, April 17 and May 26 will be converted to vacation days. If school is closed due to a weather emergency, classes will be held on May 26. If a second closure is required, classes will also be held on April 17.

A copy of the 2016/17 calendar is posted on the district’s website at www.hufsd.edu. Go to the Quick Click Bar on the homepage and then select District Calendar.
