Blue Devil Boys’ Lax Fundraiser
on Sunday

A fundraiser to benefit the Huntington High School boys’ lacrosse program will be held this Sunday, January 31 from 1-5 p.m. at Finnegan’s Restaurant and Tap Room in Huntington Village.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $50. (Cash is preferred.) You must be at least 21 years of age to attend. All parents, alumni and friends of the program are invited to attend. Blue Devil head coach Kevin Travis, assistant coach Julian Watts and other members of the Huntington boys’ lacrosse staff will be on hand to meet and greet.

Alumni are welcome to attend Sunday’s event for free. They can leave a donation or purchase a raffle ticket if they choose. The event is also open to Blue Devil lax fans.

The Huntington varsity is gearing up for what it hopes will be a great season. Top scorer Garrett Moya, who notched 36 goals and 17 assists for a team high 53 points, is returning to the field. Thomas Goldsmith (24g, 16a), Austin Reda (5g, 10a), Michael Bast (5g, 2a), Chris Abbondandelo (7a), Matt Gelb (2g, 4a), Nat Amato (4g, 2a), Dan Brown (2g, 1a), Brian Weigold (2g, 1a), Lawrence Leake (1g), Jared Leake (1g), Ryan Gorecki (1g) and Ethan Dwyer (five saves in goal) are also coming back.

Joining the varsity returnees will be Elijah Benton, Ryan Buxton, Jon Canas, Cooper Cook, Dylan Cozine, Charlie Ehrman, Cameron Knox, Ryan LaBella, Hassan Nadeem, Mark Rafuse and William Wright.

The varsity returnees will be bolstered by several top players expected to be promoted from last spring’s talented junior varsity squad and maybe even a few players that starred at J. Taylor Finley Middle School in 2015.

Practice officially kicks off on Monday, March 7. Huntington is expected to feature an exciting style of play. Many players are currently engaged in winter workouts.

Those who have unneeded lacrosse equipment at home are encouraged to bring it to Sunday’s fundraiser and donate the items to the Devil’s Den, which helps outfit needed Huntington athletes. (If you are willing to donate lacrosse equipment, but cannot make it to Sunday’s fundraiser, please contact Krista McDonald at either 516-967-4045 or kristamcdonald@optonline.net.)

Proceeds from Sunday’s event will be used to benefit this year’s high school boys’ lacrosse program.
