Huntington School Board Notes
Huntington School Board members met in public session this past Monday night and listened to a presentation by Superintendent James W. Polansky on the newly enacted Every Student Succeeds Act that President Barack Obama recently signed into law. The act will have far-reaching effects on states and local school districts.
Trustees also discussed the board of education’s meeting calendar for 2016/17. No final decisions on the calendar were made. The dates are still in the process of being finalized.
Trustees approved a revision to the district’s policy on sports and the athletic program related to the advancement of middle school students to high school athletic teams.
Trustees also took the following actions:
• Adjusted the probationary period and tenure date for Washington Primary School special education teacher Tina Balducci.
• Approved a series of routine budget transfers from one code to another.
• Approved health services contracts with several other school districts.
• Approved the disposal of outdated textbooks and equipment.
• Approved or extended long-term substitute teacher assignments for Lauren Kotler (Jefferson Primary School), Ilene Fucci (J. Taylor Finley Middle School) and Jane Judson (Huntington High School).
• Authorized Flower Hill Primary School reading teacher Kimberly Giani to return from a leave of absence, effective September 1.
• Approved the addition of Steven Kroll and Dianna Molenko to the alternative high school’s substitute teacher list. They will be paid $55 per hour when their services are required.
• Appointed Maria Canino as the junior varsity softball coach and James Byrnes as the assistant varsity softball coach.
• Authorized Lauren Visbal to work as an athletic event supervisor. She will be paid $32.73 per hour when her services are required.
• Appointed Hosun M. Lee as the choral director for the spring musical at Huntington High School.
• Approved a leave of absence for Flower Hill Primary School teacher Heather Flaherty, effective July 1.
• Appointed Thomas Desmond the chief custodian at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School, effective February 1.
• Appointed Matthew Power the head custodian at Washington Primary School, effective February 29.
• Appointed Louise Viscomi a 10-month senior clerk typist at Finley Middle School, effective January 26.
• Appointed Mary McClellan as a monitor at Woodhull Intermediate School, effective, January 26.
• Appointed Huntington High School junior Olivia Arciprete as a student lab assistant. She will be paid $9 per hour.
• Authorized Martha Ironman and Marlene McKenna to work as nurses as the district’s kindergarten registration.
• Accepted the resignation for the purpose of retirement of Theresa Campsey, a 10-month senior clerk typist at Huntington High School, effective at the close of business on June 30.
• Approved a leave of absence for Huntington High School teaching assistant Kristen DeVille, effective through approximately February 19.
• Authorized the addition of security guard Richard Rodriquez Bierd and teachers Shannon Baxter, Kenneth Gilbert, Jennifer Maher and Amanda Perfett to the district’s substitute employee list.
