Huntington School Board Notes

Huntington School Board members have approved the resignations for the purpose of retirement of J. Taylor Finley Middle School teacher Lori Haggerty and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School Principal Raffaela Montesano, effective at the close of business on June 30. Trustees took the action during a public meeting this past Monday night.

Trustees also approved a memorandum of agreement with the district clerical bargaining unit that provides for base salary and longevity increment raises of two percent annually for the 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18 school years.

Trustees also took the following actions:

• Appointed Alyssa Schneyman as a part-time librarian at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.
• Appointed George Austin as the district’s lead operations manager, effective January 12. Mr. Austin will assume many of the responsibilities previously assigned to Alvin White, who retired as the district’s director of facilities on December 30, 2015.
• Approved Christina Gottlieb, Nicole Nobile and Laurie Perino to work as long term substitute teachers.
• Approved the return from a leave of absence for J. Taylor Finley Middle School music teacher Josephine Rosado, effective July 1, 2016.
• Approved appointments to the district’s winter marching band staff, including Derek Schmelter (percussion), Amy Steinmann (percussion), Samantha Labue (color guard) and Monica Mattesi (color guard).
• Appointed Robert Krakehl as district-wide stage manager for 2015/16. He will be paid $32.73 per hour on an as needed basis.
• Approved a change in the appointment of Huntington High School stage crew advisor Christopher Helmke, Jr.
• Appointed Robert Krakehl as Huntington High School stage crew advisor.
• Appointed Robert Krakehl as a backup district-wide audio-visual technician. He will be paid $45 per hour on an as needed basis.
• Appointed Francisco Viera Pereira as a full-time teacher aide at Southdown Primary School.
• Appointed Annette Messano as a part time clerk typist in the district’s buildings and grounds department office.
• Accepted the resignation of Finley Middle School senior clerk typist Stephanie Ragolia.
• Appointed Jennifer Brittman as the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School computer club faculty advisor.
• Approved a child care related leave of absence for Flower Hill School reading teacher Kimberly Giani through June 30.
• Authorized the Huntington girls’ spring track and field team to travel to Philadelphia on April 27-29 for the Penn Relays.
• Authorized the addition of the Institute of Reading Development to the district’s list of approved facilities users list.
• Accepted a $1,500 donation from the New York State Council of Administrators for Music Education “as a thank you for hosting the NYSCAME All County Festival concert on November 20 at Huntington High School,” Assistant Superintendent Kathleen Acker said. “This donation will help fund a future visiting artist or experience that will benefit all students involved in the music program.”
• Accepted a donation in the amount of $179.58 from the United Way of Greater Waterbury. The figure represents a pledge donation during the UWGW’s 2014/15 annual campaign.
• Approved a contract with the Crisis Prevention Institute, Inc. to conduct a 26 hour instructor certification program in nonviolent crisis intervention training in the district on February 2-5.
• Authorized Michael Faulter, Robert Krakehl and Laurie Perino to work as substitute teachers on an as needed basis during the 2015/16 school year.
