H-ton Senior Cameron Knox Signs with St. Rose

Cameron Knox is headed to the College of St. Rose. The Huntington High School senior signed an NCAA Division II letter of intent to play lacrosse at the Albany area school.

“I met the assistant coach over the summer at a lacrosse camp and he thought I could be a good fit for Saint Rose after he got to know me,” Mr. Knox said. “I also visited the school to watch a practice and take a tour.”

The College of St. Rose lacrosse team compiled a 4-10 record last spring under head coach Jim Morrissey. The Golden Knights play in the Northeast-10 Conference. Founded in 1920, the college has an undergraduate enrollment of about 2,800.

“I met Coach Morrissey and I liked his passion and the way he interacted with the players during practice,” said Mr. Knox, recounting his visit. “I got to spend time with most of the players and they made me feel right at home. I enjoyed the campus tour. There is a lot to do in Albany.”

The Huntington athlete is looking forward to diving right into the college athletic scene. “I feel that I can make a contribution as a freshmen,” Mr. Knox said. “I really enjoyed the coaches and the players when I visited. I really felt wanted by the coaches.”

Mr. Knox hasn’t decided upon an academic major, but he is interested in accounting. His favorite Huntington High School teacher is Peter Crugnale and his favorite athletic coach is Ron Wilson.

“My favorite coach is Mr. Wilson because of the time he spent with me on the shot put, which helped me become the Suffolk County freshmen shot put champion,” Mr. Knox said. “He was also one of my favorite football coaches because he is the spiritual leader of the team.”

Mr. Knox will always remember his alma mater and the people he has met at Huntington High School. “Looking back in 10-15 years will involve looking back at all the friends that I made during my high school career,” he said.

As he heads into the final months of his time as a Huntington High School student, Mr. Knox knows that the Class of 2016 will be replaced by hundreds of incoming freshmen next September, each ready to pursue their own respective dreams.

“If I had the chance to talk to a ninth grader I would tell them to keep working hard to achieve your goals and to get involved with as many school activities as you can,” Mr. Knox said.
