Blue Devils Strong in North Shore Invitational in NYC

The Huntington High School boys’ indoor track and field team put on quite a show at the North Shore Invitational at the Armory in Manhattan.

The Blue Devils turned in some of the best performances in the state and country in a series of events against opponents representing high schools spread across multiple states, including Upstate New York. Seventy high schools sent teams to the competition.

Infinite Tucker won three separate events, including the 55m hurdles in a time of 7.58 seconds. It’s the fastest time in the state this winter and the seventh fastest in the United States.

Tucker also easily won the long jump, besting a field of 71 with a leap that measured 21’9.5 feet. Teammate Kyree Johnson was fourth with a jump of 20’9 feet.

Tucker ran the anchor leg of Huntington’s winning 4x200m relay, which included Exzayvian Crowell, Lawrence Leake and Johnson. The Blue Devils’ time of 1:30.68 set new meet record and school records. The time is currently the second fastest time in the state and third fastest in the country.

Leake vanquished a field of 222 as he won the 300m dash in 35.48 seconds. It’s a time that has been eclipsed by only Johnson in New York this winter.

Johnson won the 55m dash in 6.51 seconds. Kyle O’Brien, Tom Kopstein, Mark Rafuse and Shane McGuire placed fifth in the 4x800m relay in a field of 28, completing the long race in 8:37.10.
