H-ton Senior Janelle Fore Chooses the University of Buffalo

It has been on Janelle Fore’s mind for a long time. The Huntington High School senior has been thinking about the University of Buffalo as a possible landing spot after she graduates in June, but she only recently finalized her decision and she couldn’t be any happier.

“Ever since sophomore year I was considering Buffalo,” Ms. Fore said. “I chose Buffalo because of the safe and welcoming environment. I really am looking forward to the hands-on academic experience and the diversity at UB.”

Ms. Fore has been very involved in academic and co-curricular life at the high school over the past four years. “Some highlights of my time at Huntington would definitely be the clubs and sports I was involved in during high school and making new friends,” she said.

The teenager is co-president of Huntington’s mock trial club and A World of Difference, which is better known by the acronym AWOD. Vice-president of the high school Grandfriends club, Ms. Fore also finds time to play on the Blue Devil varsity softball team.

The senior has developed a close relationship with Huntington business teacher Suzie Biagi, who serves as the faculty advisor for the mock trial team, Grandfriends and AWOD. “I am definitely grateful for getting to know Mrs. Biagi,” Ms. Fore said. “She is a teacher and an advisor for many clubs, plus she volunteers on the ambulance. She has had a big impact on me throughout my high school career.”

Ms. Fore carefully considered SUNY Cortland before making up her mind for good. “How I made my decision is that Buffalo is a bigger school and I believe it is a better fit for me considering what I’m looking to go into,” the teenager said.

The senior intends to study psychology and “get involved in the variety of different clubs that UB offers,” Ms. Fore said. The teenager likes that Canada is relatively easy to get to from Buffalo and she plans to visit America’s northern neighbor.

Ms. Fore intends to explore Buffalo and the university’s campus this summer. She’s looking forward to beginning the next stage of her life and taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself during her college years.

“I recommend to incoming Huntington High School freshmen to definitely keep up with their studying, even during the times when they don’t feel like studying,” Ms. Fore said.
