H-ton Grad Notches College Hat Trick

Huntington High School alum Mackenzie Maloney recently notched a hat trick for the Wells College women’s soccer team, the first of her collegiate career.

Ms. Maloney’s three-goal performance came in a 9-1 Wells College victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game. The Huntington Class of 2015 member added an assist on a splendid day for the freshman.

The Huntington grad intends to major in elementary education and minor in special education. Ms. Maloney enjoys sports, spending time with her friends and working with children.

Wells College’s 300 acre campus overlooks Cayuga Lake in Central New York. “Wells College offers the simplicity and safety of village living and easy access to metropolitan and educational centers: 30 minutes from Ithaca, one hour from Rochester and Syracuse and five hours from New York City,” according to the institution’s website.

An honor roll student, Ms. Maloney played varsity soccer, basketball and lacrosse, earning post-season honors in soccer and basketball. She also garnered the Suffolk Gold Key Award and was a three sport New York State Scholar Athlete Award recipient. She played on back-to-back league championship basketball teams with the Blue Devils.

During her time at Huntington High School, Ms. Maloney participated in Natural Helpers, Special Olympics and Relay For Life. She said the support from her teachers, family, friends and coaches helped her reach her goals.
