Huntington School Board Notes

Huntington School Board members have accepted a donation to the district in the amount of $2,000 from the Huntington High School PTSA to be used to purchase seating for students in the school courtyard.

Board members listened to a presentation on alternative diploma pathways that are currently in place for New York students and the regulations related to them.

Trustees discussed the district’s plan for each of its reserve funds. A copy of the plan is posted on the district’s website at www.hufsd.edu.

Trustees also took the following actions:

• Approved updated policies related to the Dignity for All Students Act and the hazing of students.
• Authorized the disposal of dozens of pieces of technology equipment that are either obsolete, in poor condition or no longer needed.
• Appointed Thomas Ehlers as chief custodian of Huntington High School. He was previously serving as head custodian of Jefferson Primary School.
• Accepted the resignation for the purpose of retirement of J. Taylor Finley Middle School health teacher Dee Weinstock, effective as the close of business on June 30, 2016.
• Authorized Huntington High School students Cole Blackburn, Anna Brosoff, Andrew Gunthner, Kathleen Keys, Cindy Lopez, Osvaldo Moreira, Taylor Moreno, Rachel Moss, Diego Rodriquez, Jamie Rosenbauer, Mitchell Rudish, Emily Shutman and Jason Stickell to work as science lab assistants during the 2015/16 school year. They will be paid $8.75 per hour.
• Accepted the resignation for the purpose of retirement of facilities department groundskeeper Juan Diaz, Jr., effective December 31.
• Authorized Oriana Bohlsen to work as a virtual Advanced Placement program instructor, developing curriculum, overseeing independent study and engaging in student contact and AP prep review.
• Appointed Heidi Sanchez to work as a part-time librarian at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School and Liliana Vanderburgh to work as a part-time attendance teacher. Each of the appointments is effective October 6.
• Appointed Christina Gottlieb (classroom, Washington School) and Michael Faulter (physical education, Jefferson School) to serve as leave replacement substitute teachers.
• Approved more than two dozen instructors for the district’s adult education program, including Devin Aurichhio, Michael Donnelly, Francesco Frasca, Richard Gress, Anne Gunthner, Kelly Ann Hatzmann, Chih Chuan Hsiao, Olena Kropp, Linda Kundla, Bud Levy, Chester Lukaszewski, Jennifer Marcotte, Deirdre Mayer, Robert Mayer, Kieran Mock, Johnnie Morales, Anna Naccarato, Cecile O’Brien, Michael Posner, Carlos Pumar Atay, Michelle Marie Re, Martha Reilly, Carmella Klein, Dominick Sutera, Janeedn Wasoski, Ellen Winter and Richard Wos.
• Appointed teachers Eric Bruckbauer, Nicole Cooper, Jordan Gould, Michael Graziano and Helen Guarino to the faculty of the alternative high school program. Aimee Antorino, Fred Bisogno, Lauren Desiderio, Nancy Goddard, Kara Horn, Victoria Lombardi, Kelly Quintero and Amanda Scott were authorized to work as substitute teachers in the program.
• Approved J. Taylor Finley Middle School teachers Frank Battista, Michael Ferreira, Kristin Fortunato, Michael Gavilan, Amy Beth Hughes, Regina Murnane, Travis Smith, Julian Watts and Dee Weinstock to serve as cafeteria supervisors.
• Authorized teachers Joseph Cohen, Jamie Fishlow, Wendy Gallo, Lori Kenny, Susan Llanes, Ingrid Moreira, Donna Mora, Christine Nugent, Judy Pazienza, Matthew Perlongo, Nicole Smith and Christyn Roseto as mentors for newly appointed faculty members.
• Accepted the resignation of Jefferson Primary School teacher aide Janet Bellack, effective September 21.
• Authorized several individuals to work as per diem substitute employees during the 2015/16 school year including teacher aides Leslie Cook and Marilyn Landman, teachers Kerry Anderson, Jane Judson and Steven Widerman, custodian Richard Cardinale, food service worker Marilyn Strickland and stage manager Kenneth Gilbert.
