Washington Science Fair Taps
into Ingenuity

Washington Primary School’s annual science fair was a feel-good event for students and teachers alike. They enjoyed developing projects and watching the reactions of others who viewed the work when it was put on display.

Students tapped into their ingenuity to put together some interesting entries. “The projects were informative and well-presented,” Principal Marsha Neville said. “It was a delight to see what our children are capable of producing when they work hard and focus on a goal.”

Every class in the building developed a project along with many individual students. The results impressed the entire Washington School community. Visitors to the recent fair commented on how well done the projects were and the general attractiveness of each presentation.

The projects covered a wide range of topics that appealed to the youngsters and their classmates. First grader Lauren Dopico studied whether the distance between dominos affects the speed of their fall. Third grader Lily Froggatt-Bale researched the effect of music on plant growth. Fourth grade teacher Cindy Palmirotto’s class investigated the shapes of melting liquids.

Each class in the school toured through the fair during the day. Parents and family members were invited to attend an exhibition of the projects at night that was held in conjunction with a math adventure program that saw students rotating through three activity stations over a one hour period.

“Our science fair initiative is always a valuable learning experience for students on every grade level,” Mrs. Neville said.
