Huntington Football Moves to Suffolk Division II

After many years of playing in Suffolk Division III, the Huntington High School football team is moving into Division II next fall. The Blue Devils have been seeded No. 9 out of 14 teams in the division.
Suffolk’s four football divisions are based upon high school enrollment. Huntington is moving up a division as a result of an enrollment decline at many high schools. Such declines are expected to continue for many years. Huntington’s enrollment is remarkably stable and has even ticked up slightly.
Suffolk Division II seeds include: 1. Half Hollow Hills West; 2. Riverhead; 3. Newfield; 4. North Babylon; 5. Bellport; 6. Smithtown West; 7. West Islip; 8. Smithtown East; 9. Huntington; 10. Half Hollow Hills East; 11. West Babylon; 12. Copiague; 13. Deer Park; 14. Centereach.
Huntington’s tentative schedule provides for the following games:
Week 1: Newfield at Huntington
Week 2: Huntington at Bellport
Week 3: Half Hollow Hills West at Huntington
Week 4: West Islip at Huntington
Week 5: Huntington at Deer Park
Week 6: Huntington at Centereach
Week 7: Huntington at West Babylon
Week 8: Copiague at Huntington
The Blue Devils are slated to face several opponents they have not met in decades. Huntington head coach Steve Muller expects to field a “very competitive” team next fall.
