Emily Sager Wins Jane Sullivan Award

Emily Sager’s voice will be missed next year. The Huntington High School senior has been a standout four-year member of the concert and chamber choirs, performing at many school and community events and never failing to impress the audience.

Ms. Sager is headed to Loyola University Maryland in the fall. Earlier this month, the teenager received the Jane Sullivan Award, which is presented annually to the best all-around choir student in the graduating class. The award carries a stipend of $100.

“Emily is enthusiastic, dependable and a joy to teach,” said teacher Veronica Mainville, who heads the high school’s choral activities program. “Her beautiful soprano voice will truly be missed and her sweetness and kindness will be remembered.”

The teenager has sung in the Treblemakers a cappella group for the past four years. She has also been a four-year member and a captain of the Highsteppers, Huntington High School’s competitive dance team, traveling with the group to the national dance championships in Florida several times.

Ms. Sager was the Huntington chamber choir’s Soprano 1 section leader this year. A member of the National Tri-M Music Honor Society, the senior said the key to her success has not only involved studying and working hard, but meeting new people and trying new things.

Over the course of the past four years, Ms. Sager has participated in numerous clubs, sports and school related activities, including charitable initiatives such as feeding the homeless and raising monies to battle cancer at the Relay For Life and Jana Piccola Walk 4Love.
