Tucker Wins 600m at LI Elite Invitational
Infinite Tucker and the Huntington High School boys’ winter track 4x400m relay team tuned up for the state indoor championships this coming weekend with first place finishes at the Long Island Elite Track Invitational at St. Anthony’s last Sunday.
Tucker won the 600m run in 1:22.35, edging Walt Whitman senior Shamar Powell, who crossed the line in 1:22.54. The Blue Devil star then ran the first leg on Huntington’s winning 4x400m relay team, which included Lawrence Leake, Kyree Johnson and Exayvian Crowell.
The Huntington relay had an off day, finishing the race in 3:26.78, more than six seconds slower than its No. 1 seed time. But, the Blue Devils still captured the event, easily turning back runner-up Longwood and third place finisher Comsewogue.
Huntington senior Sondy Jean-Baptiste placed fourth in high jump with a leap of 6-02. Smithtown East sophomore Daniel Claxton won the event by clearing 6-08.
Blue Devil throwers Jimmie Nelson and Matteo McNeil didn’t have their best days, but they nevertheless persevered. Nelson finished 12th with a toss of 45-04 and McNeil was 15th with a throw of 44-04.25. The seniors will now start to prep for the spring season.
