Sam Latt Accepted by Cornell University
Sam Latt’s wish came true. The Huntington High School senior was accepted by Cornell University last week and the teenager couldn’t be any happier.
“I am so excited to go to Cornell,” Mr. Latt said. “When I visited Cornell in October, I knew it was the place for me. It fits all of my academic needs, the campus is beautiful and Cornell ice cream is to die for. I know that I will be surrounded by amazing students who will push me to work my hardest, but who are also collaborative and willing to help me succeed.”
Mr. Latt intends to study applied math at Cornell. “I plan on using the versatile major to concentrate in maybe economics or statistics. I am undecided on any career plans as of now.”
Outside of class, Mr. Latt is considering joining Cornell’s orchestra or playing club tennis. “But, first I’d like to mainly focus on my studies and adapting to college life,” he said.
Spanish teacher Elizabeth Casazza and math teachers Patricia Avelli and Monica Racz are among the Huntington High School teachers who “particularly stand out” in Mr. Latt’s eyes.
“My time at Huntington was unforgettable,” Mr. Latt said. “I will never forget my experience in the National History Day competition and finding a new interest in social studies. I also loved playing cello in the orchestra, playing varsity tennis and being the math honor society president.”
The teenager will graduate in June with many happy memories. Mr. Latt’s teachers, advisors and coaches have always found him to be a highly capable young man with the determination, drive and organizational skills to meet any challenge.
“I would tell freshmen that the key to success at Huntington is to push yourself,” Mr. Latt said. “Take that extra class, stay up that extra hour to study, join that club that you’re debating whether or not to join. You’re only in high school once and if you work to your fullest potential, it will all pay off in the end.”
