The Huntington girls’ soccer team won its final regular season game, shutting out visiting Bellport on Senior Day at Blue Devil Stadium, 2-0.

Katie Reilly and Mackenzie Maloney each scored a goal. Katy Laurie and Katie Nugent had assists. Taylor Moreno stopped seven shots to record her eighth shutout of the season. Bellport goalie Linniz Sarro recorded 12 saves in the game.

Huntington head coach John Walsh substituted for each of his seniors one by one late in the second half so they could be recognized with ovations by their teammates and the crowd.

Following the game, Walsh and assistant coach Vinny Tannazzo paid tribute to the seniors on the field with their parents and teammates standing nearby. The group includes Maloney, Laurie, Nugent, Kaitlin Wascher, Samantha Lynch, Jessica Tucker, Lindsay Sullivan, Caitlin Knowles and Tyler Burton.

Another Shutout for Renato Aguilar

The Huntington High School boys’ soccer team shutout host Kings Park on Monday, 2-0. The Blue Devils scored goals in both the first and second half.

Olvin Palma broke the scoreless tie in the 25th minute when he took a pass from Scott Gulizio and put the ball in the net. Carlos Rivera notched Huntington’s second and final goal in the 60th minute off an assist by Steve Shivers.

Blue Devil goalie Renato Aguilar recorded his eighth shutout of the fall, stopping four shots in the game.

Another Pool Victory

The Huntington girls’ swimming and diving team topped West Babylon, 94-78 on the strength of freshman Patricia Arceri’s first place finish in diving. The teenager earned 251.25 points to capture the event.

Fabio Named Head Coach

Former Huntington High School fencer Mike Fabio, who more recently has been the Blue Devil fencing team’s assistant coach, has been appointed head coach of the varsity program. He replaces Alan Kuver, a giant in the sport who passed away last June after a courageous fight against esophageal cancer. Kuver groomed Fabio as a high school coach and worked closely with him over the past several seasons. He was also Fabio’s high school coach more than a decade ago.

H-ton to Play in Suffolk BB Showcase

The Huntington girls’ basketball team will play in the Suffolk County Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Showcase on Saturday, December 6 in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.

John H. Glenn will square off against Smithtown East at 11 a.m. Brentwood plays Islip at 1 p.m. Commack and Harborfields will tangle at 3 p.m. The Blue Devils will take on Copiague in the final game at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 and entitles a ticket holder to watch all four games.

Relay Leads the Way

Caroline McCartney, Hannah Bailin, Noelle Harvey and Sigrid Cassell captured the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:17.08 to lead the Huntington girls’ swimming and diving team past Hauppauge, 95-88.

H-ton Boys’ BB Coaching Moves

After serving many seasons as the Huntington junior varsity boys’ basketball coach, Edward Lein has been promoted to assistant coach of the varsity team. Joseph Mantesta has been named JV coach.

Mantesta holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was a men’s basketball team assistant coach at the school from 2010 to 2012. He was assistant coach of the Kings Park varsity basketball team in 2013/14.
