Blue Devils Prep for Friday Night Showdown

If the Huntington High School football team intends to qualify for post-season play the Blue Devils will need a win at Eastport-South Manor on Friday night. In eighth place in Suffolk Division III with a 2-4 record, Big Blue has its back against the wall.

Huntington was soundly beaten at Sayville last Saturday. The Golden Flashes rolled to a 35-0 victory before a relatively small crowd. Ranked No. 1 on Long Island coming into the game, Sayville showed why it was a heavy favorite. “That game is over,” Blue Devil head coach Steve Muller said. “Our focus is on Eastport-South Manor. We want to play sharp right from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.”

Huntington has been outscored by its opponents this fall, 100-66. “We need to pick it up on both sides of the ball Friday night,” Muller said. “We cannot afford mistakes. “Our margin for error is small. Everyone needs to go out and play their best game.”

The Sharks are coming off a 30-0 victory at Harborfields. Eastport-South Manor tallied four touchdowns and a field goal in the first half in Greenlawn last Saturday. They have both scored and surrendered 149 points in six games this season.

Eastport-South Manor currently sits in fifth place in the standings with a 3-3 mark and a power rating of 108.06. Huntington has a power rating of 102.58. Friday night’s kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

The Blue Devils will conclude the regular season next Saturday (Nov. 1) when they host fourth place Westhampton Beach (4-2) at 1:30 p.m.
