Anderson’s Team Wins 50 Mile Relay

Shawn Anderson is not only a cross country and track coach, he’s a competitive runner, too.
Last weekend the Huntington coach ran in the 29th Annual Ocean to Sound relay, a 50 mile race that starts at Jones Beach and ends in Oyster Bay.

“I represented Runners Edge men’s open team, running leg five for them,” Anderson said. As an individual, Anderson ran the fastest fifth leg of the day and as a team Runners Edge won the overall race.

“Leg five started at the Cold Spring Harbor train station and headed down Woodbury Road, snaking through back roads before ending at Mill Dam in Huntington,” Anderson said. “Being a local, I knew that area well and just let myself push as hard as I could. I came back about 20 minutes later to help the We Are Athletes mixed team take fifth overall, and first in our division! That was leg six, which went up the hills of Browns Road, by Coindre Hall and headed to Cold Spring Harbor via Mill Rd and Snake Hill. Twelve total miles for the day and my legs were feeling it. But it’s always a fun time, and to help two teams come home with victories and win a leg outright was really awesome.”
